Kompong Cham is a mix of old and new scenes: a new temple being built alongside the ruins of an old one, a big boat bringing the products of the people to the other side of the river dotted with modern structures near the Mekong Delta.
Its proximity to the Mekong River makes Kampong Cham a convenient route of important trade to Vietnam and Phnom Penh. The town has a rustic, bucolic appeal, a contrast to the bustling morning river scene and the fast-pace life in its wide-boulevard streets.
Kompong Cham has a few attractions which include the Nokor, Wat Preah Theat Thmor Da and Prey Nor Kornong-Krov Temples and the unspoiled resorts of Peah Tehatteuk Chaa and Phnom Srey Phnom Pros, built during the regime of Sangkum Reas Niyum under King Norodom Sihanouk.
About 1,000 meters north of Phnom Pros is Pnom Srei, an elevated hill with a pointed peak. By climbing the hill top along a long and winding 308 steps, visitors can have a panoramic view of Kompong Cham and see the remnants of the ruined temples that date back to 12th century.
