A journey to Koh Kong is a chance to weave through its manifold forest and catch a glimpse of some of the breathtaking sights of the Cardamon Mountains - its lush jungle, beautiful river crossings, rapid waterfalls and the abundance of some endangered wildlife such as the Indochinese tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti), Siamese crocodiles, pangolins and some species of turtles and tortoises.
The Koh Kong Conservation Corridor is a relatively brand new and largely unexplored destination. Most traveler crossing the Thai border would pass through it, not once paying attention. Times, however, have changed. Offering a vast wealth of eco-tourism, adventure and beach hoping possibilities, the Koh Kong is one of the most convenient starting grounds to explore Cambodia's uncharted territories.
An adventurous trip to the nearby mangrove forest and boating further upstream to the spectacular Tatai waterfalls, can be a worthwhile experience after a long trek to the steep slopes and the deep gorge of Cardamon. The Tuo Kokir Rapids and the impressive jungle ravine of Kbal Chhay Falls are situated farther upriver.
Although all these trips start out on tarmac they will soon end up in off-road conditions in Cambodia - rocks, ruts, ridges and steep inclines. The most amazing factor is that these marvelous sights draw lots of tourists despite of several inconveniences.
