The Glossary
Encompassing the vast wilderness such as the Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta and the woodlands of Kasane ang Kazungula, Northern Botswana offers a natural highway through the exquisite bushes and the wildest strip of Africa. This wedge of land is incidentally the last stretches of the Great African Rift Valley separating the rambling floodplains and forests where one sees the best collection of wildlife on earth.
Profuse game viewing is the prime lure of Northern Botswana. Since the discovery of game reserves and parklands, the popularity of the region has caught the fancy not only of seasoned travelers and backpackers but also of an increasing number of natural scientists wanting to discover the rarest possible species and the most bizarre creatures alive after the Dinosaur Age.
Visiting the wildlife of rich Moremi Game Reserve in Maun, rummaging the crystal clear breadth of the Okavango Delta channels by canoe or simply watching the big game on its several marshlands near the confluence of Zambezi and Chobe River are just a few among the long lists of diversions available once visitors get into this side of the world.
The chance of coming across a fantastic collection of herds of elephants, buffalos, hippos, leopards, and packs of African dogs in the months of July to October makes it a gripping and sometimes "hair-raising" journey to the wilds. For those who brave it all the way, a few safari nights at the most secluded lodges could be a real thrill. Here visitors can also find a good number of giraffes, zebras, jackals and sables crossing the Linyati River regularly, adding to the uniqueness and splendor of one's African odyssey.
Apart from exploring the game reserves of Northern Botswana, there are other unforgettable attractions such as a jaunt along the Savuti Channel to the nearby Bushman Hill and Savuti Marsh. The elusive river channel is noted for its "mysterious flow" which leaves a sanctuary of open plains famed throughout Africa for thier drives and walking safaris.
Visitors can also try the motorboats through the channels of the Xakanaxa Lagoon and see a large number of exotic birds or drive along the edge of Nxai Pan National Park where also one can view a great variety of game.
After a tiring day, it's exquisite to just lounge in a private game farm or in a tree lodge to fully realize a delightful African experience.
