More about Belarus costs
Belarus’ national currency is the Belarusian roubles (BYB/BYR), sometimes called “zaichiki” (meaning rabbits) since the first rouble note in 1992 had a leaping rabbit. Today, roubles come in large denominations of 10s, 20s, 50s, 100s, 500s, 1000s, 5000s, 10000s, 20000s, and 50000s. There are no coins in their currency and the 10, 20, 50, and 100 banknotes are practically worthless. There are many ATMs for credit or debit cards and exchange kiosks in the big cities. Converting roubles back to hard currency becomes difficult when you’re outside of the country. Be sure to exchange all your roubles before leaving the country.
Traveling costs in Belarus are extremely cheap compared to other Western European countries. The lowest room prices cost about 14,000.00 BYL (5,139.50 USD) to 55,000.00 BYL (20,190.90 USD). Midrange rooms are priced between 55,000.00 BYL (20,190.90 USD) and 137,500.00 BYL (50,477.24 USD). The most expensive rooms start at 137,500.00 BYL (50,477.24 USD) and can go higher than 330,000.00 BYL (121,145.37 USD). Backpack travelers can survive on meals that cost between 2,750.00 BYL (1,009.54 USD) and 8,250.00 BYL (3,028.63 USD). High end restaurants hotels start their meal prices at 22,000.00 BYL (8,076.36 USD) but the bill can reach more than 55,000.00 BYL (20,190.90 USD). Transportation is also inexpensive but taking the local transit is much more economical than riding a taxi.
