Bandarban Travel Guide
Visitors coming to this side of Bangladesh will be delighted to see that the small and remote town of Bandarban features interesting sights and gaudy festivals such as the Sangrai, Maghi Purnima and the Raj Punnyah. Located at the Hill Tracts of Chittagong, Bandarban is enveloped by the daunting peaks of Tahindong, Mowdok Mual and Keokradong and embraced by the Sangu River. The mountain ranges can be a good starting point of a long day trek. Circumnavigating the mountains' lush dense forest, though tiring, is the travelers' ultimate reward.
After the mountain treks, visitors can continue walking on the trail that leads to the narrow road and undulating terrain near the lakes of Meghala and Boga. Boga Lake is believed by the locals to be an extinct volcano that, through eons of geological time, transformed into a lake. Meghla, on the other hand, is an artificial lake but still overflows with crowds coming to see its sprawling beauty.
Other than the lakes, Bandarban has a myriad of waterfalls, with Nilachal, Shoilo Propat and Rijuk as the most prominent among them, providing a rich source of water reservoir to the Bandarban whole district. Back to the town center, visitors can pay a visit to some of the renowned landmarks such as the Buddha Dhatu Jadi (a Buddhist temple), the Raj and Ulannipara Vihar. A worthwhile cruise on the sampan (boat) on the Sangu River or a visit to the Mru and Bawm tribal villages in the Chimbuk Hill can be a breather after all those trails and walks.
