The Glossary
Founded in 1670, the Bai Quoc Pagoda was renovated several times over the years. The last time major repairs and renovation was done to the historical temple was in 1957.
The current name of the temple is not its original when it was founded by a Buddhist monk from China. The name was changed by Emperor Minh Mang during his reign in 1824. Six years after the name was changed, the emperor celebrated his 40th birthday at this temple.
Along with halls for prayer and meditation, the Bao Quoc Pagoda is also a center for learning Buddhism. There is a school where students and monks in training can study.
At the central altar of the main hall, visitors will find three images of Buddha which represent A Di Da, Di Lac and Thich Ca. There is also a tomb of monks behind the altar.
