When riding on tuk tuks, always try to carry a map because many drivers like to take unsuspecting tourists on the "scenic routes" that are usually longer and cost a lot more.  The best way to avoid such predicaments is to tell the driver which way you want to go, or choose those with signs like "We love farangs (foreigners)."
