The Wat Ratchabophit is seen as one of the most under rated temples in Bangkok since it does not receive a good number of visitors like the city's other temples. This is a bit understandable due to the number of temples in the city, but this one has its own unique story to tell.
Construction of the Wat Ratchabophit took about 20 years to finish. It was commenced in 1869 by King Rama V and it was only finished in 1889. It is a monument to the new architectural ideas that entered the country from other countries, especially from the west. Despite being an Asian temple, the Wat Ratchabophit is distinctly European.
