The Lak Meuang was built around a stone which marks the actual foundation of Bangkok. This marks the place where all distances in the country is measured from. There is also a legend with the Lak Meuang, and according to that legend, this is where the guardian spirits of Bangkok reside in.
Amazingly, at any given time there is always a group of people offering flowers and burning joss sticks around this shrine. They do this in hopes of being granted good fortune. There are also merchants around the area who sells caged birds. It is believed that releasing these birds would also bring good fortune. This also signifies a smooth passage of the guardian spirits to Nirvana.
During the day, there are various performers near the Lak Meuang which is always very interesting.
