The Glossary
Looking at the Phayathai Palace, it is difficult to believe that this amazing palace complex was built way back in 1909. It still seems to be in top shape. The palace was built during King Rama V's reign so that he and his wife, Queen Saowabha, would have somewhere near to relax and slow down time. The queen would spend several days at a time at this palace, but who wouldn't?
The Phayathai Palace is peaceful and has several interesting sections such as the Throne Hall which is made of wood and glass and it even has its own theatre where various artists performed their craft for the royal family.
In 1925, the palace was used as a hotel for foreign dignitaries. It was then turned into a hospital by the military after the 1932 revolution before it was opened to the public. It is the perfect place to check out some of Thailand's culture and heritage.
