The Church of Santa Cruz was built on an area where Portuguese missionaries and merchants in Bangkok lived in the city's earlier years. It was built late in the 18th century.
Over the years, the Santa Cruz Church suffered several damages due to natural disasters and war. Hence, the church was rebuilt twice, once in 1834 and the second in 1913. During its second renovation, renowned Italian architects Mario Tamagno and Annibale Rigotti were assigned to the project. The current church which can be seen today was their work in 1913.
The cream colored church is home to several biblical images and religious works of art. There is also a statue of the Virgin Mary in the courtyard surrounded by a beautiful garden.
