The original building of the Assumption Cathedral in Bangkok, Thailand was constructed upon the request of the French missionary named Father Pascal in 1809. Construction was completed during the reign of King Rama II in 1821.
After 1860, the grounds of the Assumption Cathedral played a huge role for Christian missionaries that arrived in Bangkok. The design of the church was changed to that of a theromanesque style between 1910 and 1918.
Another renovation effort was done after the Assumption Church suffered severe damages during World War II. This was when the current stained glass windows of the cathedral were installed. Today, this is the main church of the Archdiocese of Bangkok and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1984.
