Tourists in Taipei who would like to learn about the culture of the country's citizens should give time to visit the Bao-an Temple. This Taoist temple is dedicated to the god of medicine and is located just across the Temple of Confucius.
The Bao-an Temple was first built in 1830 when immigrants from nearby Fujien Province came to the city. Along with them was the statue of the god of medicine to which the temple is dedicated to. During the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, the temple was used as a language school teaching children the Japanese language. It was also used as a factory by the soldiers.
After the Japanese left the country, the Bao-an Temple was found almost in ruins. It was renovated during the 1900s and is now open to the public.
