The Iron Fort is one of the most popular attractions that Matsu offers. The fort was originally built as a training base of the Special Forces. Another purpose for the fort was for defense. It is found on a cliff on the southwestern side of Beikang Island which is vulnerable to attacks and even smuggling or pirate activities. It had several machinegun bunkers and facilities for soldiers to operate around the clock.

Today, the equipment and weapons of the Iron Fort has been removed and is now open to the general public as well as travelers. Even though it lacks its original equipment, visitors are given an idea of how the soldiers of that time would have gone on with their duties.
