Dambadeniya Temple is an ancient temple excavated as part of the ancient city of the same name. It was originally a three story high temple but today, due to natural deterioration, the temple now stands just two stories high. The temple contained several interesting artifacts such as images of Buddha, which were identified to be Vijayasundaramaya. Wall paintings were also found in the ancient temple which dates back to the 18th century.
The Dambadeniya Temple is also believed to have displayed a sacred tooth relic brought here by Parakramabahu II during the Dambadeniya period.
