Dagoba - "Dome-like structures that enshrine Buddha's relics; A place of worship to Sri Lankan Buddhists."
The Mahameghavana Park in Anuradhapura holds one of the most sacred Buddhist relics in the world, the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. This is a Sacred Fig tree which is said to have come from the actual Bodhi tree under which Buddha sat down to meditate and eventually attained enlightenment. It is the oldest living tree which was planted by a person and with a known planting date.
It is said that King Devanampiyatissa planted this fig tree in the Mahameghavana Park in 249 BC.
