The Kent Ridge Park has been known to be a great destination for tourists who are concerned with the environment. During the Second World War, the area occupied by the park was used by the British as a fortress while defending Singapore from the Japanese. During the Japanese occupation, a huge part of the park was destroyed and the plants grew wild. After the war, it was rechristened to the Kent Ridge Park in 1954. Today this park is part of the Pasir Panjang Historic District which gives tourists a historical tour of the various battles that occured in western Singapore. Some equipments used during the war are still present including an AMX-13 tank and a couple of M114 155 mm howitzer guns.
