During the Spanish Colonial Period, the Chinese Cemetery was the designated place to bury people who were denied a Catholic burial. A number of Philippine national heroes were buried here first including Apolinario Mabini. The Chinese Cemetery is the second largest cemetery in the Philippines and is the burial ground for the wealthiest Chinese citizens of Manila. The mausoleums resemble actual homes or architecture of famous buildings complete with furniture, amenities, air conditioning and even running water. Landmarks to visit include Chong Hock Tong Temple, the Martyrs Hall, Carlos Palanca Memorial and the Ruby Tower Memorial.
