Found in Pasay City, which is part of the Greater Manila Area, Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the main gateway going in and out of Luzon. It is also the center of Asia's first international airlines, the Philippine Airlines. Usually abbreviated to NAIA, the airport got its name from Ninoy Aquino, the late senator who was at the forefront of battling the dictatorial regime of Ferdinand Marcos. It was at the tarmac of this airport (then known as the Manila International Airport) where he was shot dead upon arriving back to the Philippines after his self imposed exile to the United States.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport was declared 59th in worldwide passenger traffic in 2006.
