Safety in Boracay
enfant_terrible
It's generally safe around Boracay. Most areas in the beachfront are well-lit, especially in Station 2. Be wary though that the end of Station 3 does not have light at night so avoid swimming there as there might be no one to save you. Remember to swim only near the shore as the tides change quickly. The middle of the sea swiftly changes from shallow to deep in the morning and afternoon, causing several cases of drowning.
It's also dark in the corners of D-Mall after 11 p.m., so stay away from those areas to avoid falling victim to a robber or rapist.
Bring your own torchlight and extra batteries as preparation for the blackouts. There are many reports of thefts inside hotels during blackouts so keep an eye on your belongings especially during power cuts. Likewise, watch over your things or leave your things in your room before swimming. Thieves might just grab your things, even your flip-flops, if you leave them on the shore.
Be careful also in crossing the street as there are many reckless tricycle drivers.
