The Glossary
Arak - "a triple-distilled spirit of grapes and is famous throughout the Middle East. It is colorless like water and tastes of aniseed which is introduced at the third distillation."
The Souk al-Blatt, or also known as the Tiled Market, is a street lined with stores, stalls and merchants found in one of the oldest parts of Zahle. This place has played an important role in the history and development of the city. During the old days, Souk al-Blatt was where travelers and merchants from Baghdad, Palestine and Syria would go to in order to buy and sell various goods.
Today, the buy and sell of goods by foreigners still go on. This prompted the current government to plan a restoration project of Souk al-Blatt and turn it into a center for their traditional crafts and activities.
