The Surabaya Synagogue was established in 1939 by the local Jew population. This is the only active synagogue found in Indonesia.
This place of worship is a simple one storey rectangular building with a wooden entrance door found at the west side of the building. To the east is a Bimah made of wood and decorated with the stars of David. In front of the Bimah is a wooden ark.
Today, the Surabaya Synagogue is still kept simple and modest. The structure is maintained by local Jewish families.
