The Martha Christina Tiahahu Monument is an eight meter tall statue found in Ambon. She was a freedom fighter from a village known as Abubu. Martha Christina took arms against the Dutch colonizers at age 17. She was by her father's side, Kapitan Pailis Tiahahu to free Nusalaut Island of the colonizers.
Over the years, Christina fought in many battles which included the battle on Saparua Island where Richement, a Dutch Commander, was killed in combat. At the same battle, Commander Meyer was also killed.
Later, Christina was captured along with her father and Kapitan Pattimura, who was also a national hero, and they were sentenced to death. Today, the Martha Christina Tiahahu Monument stands guard over Ambon to remind people of her courage and heroism amidst the foreign invaders.
