Not only is the Pura Maospahit Temple the oldest temple in Denpasar, but it is also one of the most important temples in the city as well. Evidence shows that the temple was built around the 15th century and that the name of the temple suggests that it was founded by the Lajaphit Dynasty. It is believed that this was their ancestral temple.
Through the years, the Pura Maospahit Temple has been renovated and altered many times. Because of this, a lot of the original furnishings and materials have been lost.
There is no regularly opened door going into the temple. The main entrance opens only during festivals and other celebrations. The left side entrance is the one which is usually open, but you may still need luck on your side.
