Taj Mahal

Regarded as one of the eight wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal is perhaps the most famous tourist destination in all of India. The entire complex was built by the Muslim Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his departed queen, Muntaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal, which literally means Crown Palace, is a mausoleum that houses the grave of the queen. Its architecture is highly regarded as one of the best in the world and visitors are always struck with awe when they see this magnificent feat of architecture. The dome on top of the complex measures 58 feet in diameter and is 213 meters high. Each of the slender minarets rise 162.5 feet off the ground and the entire complex is designed with flowers and calligraphy with the use of agate, jasper and other precious stones. Any person planning a trip to India should strongly consider giving time to visit the Taj Mahal.
