Located near The Military Cemetery in Stanley, Hong Kong was the only one used during the early colonial era excluding the Hong Kong (Happy Valley) Cemetery for members of the garrison force. Burials were done here from 1841 to 1866 and none occurred until World War I and II.

The Military Cemetery is the final resting place of 598 people who died during the Second World War. This included non-British Allied soldiers as well as two members of the Hong Kong Police. 175 people buried here remain unidentified. A total of 96 people buried in the Military Cemetery are civilians including four children.
