About Agia Napa

Europe > Cyprus > Agia Napa
In eastern Cyprus, just south of Famagusca, is the land of Agia Napa, popular for its crystal clear blue beaches, golden sands and bohemian lifestyle, where the ebb and flow of the waves lash against titanic mountains. The Mediterranean plains are blessed with red fertile soil.

The name sounds peculiar, but is archaic, where Napa means wooded valley. Agia Napa in Greek literally translates to Saint Napa. The most sacred site here is a monastery whose icon was discovered serendipitously by a hunter. The icon was christened the Virgin Mary of Agia Napa and the monastery was built in 1500AD, around a cave!

Of course, major attractions are the beaches and resorts dotting the place. The beaches of Agia Napa are considered to be the finest and cleanest beaches in the whole of Cyprus. This town can actually be covered on foot, provided you find your feet on ground! When there’s so much to do in the waters, who would want to plant his feet on ground?

The most remarkable feature of your stay here, is the touching Cypriot hospitality. The Bohemian culture and lifestyle allows unbridled freedom to youngsters. Little wonder then, that Agia Napa has earned a name as the ‘Dance Party Capital’.

You can indulge in all water sports. While the adventurous can try wind-surfing, water-skiing, scuba-diving and drift high up on a parachute, the meek have an array of mild amusements to choose from, including motor-boat rides, canoeing, pedal-boating and speed-boating. As you race against the tides, the free-spirited youth in you, rears its bold head.

Other attractions include a visit to The Marine Life Museum, located in Agia Napa’s Town Hall. It’s the first of its kind in Cyprus, showcasing an array of past and current marine life. The place also promots research on marine life.

Old and young will also enjoy the Water World, which is an award winning water-park, located on the outskirts of Agia Napa. A major attraction is The Poseidon’s Wave Pool here, the biggest wave pool in entire Europe! While brave-hearts would brim with aplomb experimenting on various adventurous sports, the faint-hearted can just relax idling away on the shores, allowing the waves to lap around them; allowing themselves to float on water!

It’s a pity if you miss the Esperia Restaurant, famous for its fish tavern, delicious seafood and Middle East food. Do head for Midas Gift Store for souvenirs. The night life is filled with razzmatazz especially at bars such as Bedrock and the Castle Club, which close down at dawn! Agia Napa will bring to surface your caged free spirit and you’ll return confident.
