Built during the Ming Dynasty, Jinshanling is a slab of the Great Wall located in the verdant boondocks of Luanping, 125 kilometers northeast of Beijing. Constructed in 1570, the 10.5-kilometer-long Jinshanling has five passes, two beacon towers, and 67 towers. Jinshanling is the starting line of the 10-kilometer, four hour hike to Simatai, a portion of the Great Wall in Miyun County. Jinshanling's façade is well-restored, but as it approaches Simatai, the wall turns into a state of ruin.
