Beware of fake ticket vendors

Beware of fake ticket vendors when visiting Huanghua. These vendors might hassle you to buy tickets before letting you pass. Take note that these vendors are unofficial as the government still has not imposed any entrance fees for tourists to access this side of the Great Wall.
If ever you encounter any of these sellers, insist not to pay and just move on with your hiking. If the vendor continues to go after you and even threatens you, warn him or her that you'd be reporting him to the police. Even if you can't talk in Mandarin, the locals usually understand the word "police" and they are actually very afraid of the authorities. This should be enough to bug the vendor off.
If you have a guide, you can ask your guide to drive off the seller. If you don't have a guide and the vendor is really threatening you despite your warnings, go to the nearby Huanghua or Zhongjielingang village (take a cab or a long walk) and ask a local to point you to the police department. You can report that illicit vendor to the police. If you have a mobile phone that works in China, you can contact these numbers:
Zhongjielingang Police Department: 86-317-5482195, 86-317-15786066
Huanghua City District Police Department: 86-317-5326407, 86-135-03173858
The police here are usually friendly and helpful to foreigners, however, it's still better if you get a Chinese guide to talk to the police as the police might not understand you and take no action against your complaints or worse, might mistake you for hassling a local instead of the other way around.
