shan - "means mountain. If you see a shan at the end of the name of a place, it means that it is a mountain in which you may hike, camp, or make a temple visit if it is a sacred mountain."
Hailongtun Fortress
An ancient castle named Hailongtun Fortress which was built and used during the Song and Yuan Dynasties still stand today in Guizhou. This structure served a military purpose during its time and was built by the Lord of ancient Bozhou named Yang Shi. Today, it has the distinction of being the most well preserved military castle in Asia.
The Hailongtun Fortress was chosen in 1982 as a major historical and cultural site to receive provincial protection.
