A lot of intriguing and important people in Chinese history lived in Beijing, one of them is Mao Dun. His house is one of the number of houses protected under state and municipal protection. So, who is Mao Dun in the first place? His real name was Shen Dehong and he was a notable writer. He was in fact, the first writer to join the Communist Party of China. He also acted as the first Minister of Culture of China and the chairman of Chinese Writers' Association. Inside the Mao Dun Former Residence, visitors will find that the writer kept a pen and paper as well as his books beside his bed at all times. He had difficulty going around so he did most of his reading and writing in his bedroom. His residence is open to the public on mondays, wednesdays and saturdays from 9:30am to 4pm.
