The Lu Xun Museum was opened in 1956 in memory of Lu Xun, regarded as the founder of contemporary Chinese writing. He was also a revered scholar and was part of the anti-imperialist movement in 1919. His greatest legacy however is the creation of the simplified Chinese script. The Lu Xun Museum is made up of two sections, the first is the writer's former home for two years and the other is an exhibition hall. There are more than 10,000 letters, manuscripts, photographs and journals that can be found in the main exhibit hall. Visitors can also read a copy of the diary entry he wrote on the day of his death.
