Within the walls of the Forbidden City lies the Imperial Archives. Inside the archives tourists will see golden chests which contain ancient imperial scrolls from the time the emperors of China resided and did their duties in the Forbidden City. This was also where the Jade Book was kept, the book which kept the genealogical records of every emperor of China. Visitors will also be treated to art galleries in the compound. Visiting the Imperial Archives is free of charge.
