A quiet alternative to Angkor Wat, the Wat Athvea doesn't receive that much visitors. That is understandable since most tourists who come to Siem Reap would go to the former instead of here. But still, it is a nice little place to go if you have some extra time.
Wat Athvea was built on top of an ancient temple during the 12th century. It is believed that this was the training ground for Angkorian workers. Today, the temple here that stands is still in relative good condition. Although not many images, carvings or statues are found in Wat Athvea, it is still a religious site devoted for prayer and solemn reflection.
