A little temple ruin known as Ashram Maha Rosei is a Khmer monument but it is different from all other Khmer monuments or temples. It is a unique design that is similar to that of Prasat Ashram Isay found in Sambor Prey Kuk. It was constructed using basalt stone around the 7th or 8th century before the Angkorian Chenla period.
The design influence of the Ashram Maha Rosei is clearly not Khmer. It is suggested that the architecture, adornments and design of this temple was from derived from temples found in Java and southern India accompanied by some Khmer preferences.
